Aloha! Well today has been very nice. Perfect beach weather... so of course Jackie and I stayed home. We both got up this morning with scratchy throats, nothing serious, but thought it might be better if we didn't go snorkeling until we were sure it wasn't going to get worse. We were both much better by about 10 but decided to give it a little longer before we got back in the water. We did make it out to the garden and even pulled a few weeds while we were there. Jackie also planted a row of sunflowers along the back of the garden. We had already replanted the ones in the corners and thought why not add a few more as we both like the color the sunflowers add. Jackie and I were looking back at some photos of our trip to Maui and we came across the ones of our horseback ride into Haleakala Crater. This is the only time we can remember when we have had to wear a coat while we have been in Hawaii and as I remember it our coats felt mighty good that morning as it was about 40 with a blowing rain at the summit! Once we dropped into the crater the weather got much nicer though. The first photo is of us at the cabin. It about 61/2 miles in on the Sliding Sands Trail. I was never so ready to get off a horse in my life! My knees were screaming! How Jackie was able to do 50 mile rides during her endurance days is a mystery to me. I always knew she was tougher than me...just never realized she was that much tougher! The second photo was taken along the same Sliding Sands Trail. The next photo was taken from our condo's lanai in Kihei and the last photo was taken at a beach on the road to Hana.
Jackie and I retired in October of 2006. Jackie after 15 years as a veterinary technician for Prosser Animal Hospital, Carl after 30 years as a leadman for Kenyon Zero Storage. Our last day on the job was on a Friday and we were on the plane heading to Kauai Saturday.
