STRIPEBELLY PUFFER AND MR. HONU

Aloha! Jackie and I had an awesome snorkel today and to think we almost talked ourselves out of going! It was after lunch when I asked Jackie if she wanted to get in the water. She had been working in the garden all morning. That is, she was in the garden when it would quit raining long enough for her to be out there! It never did rain very hard but enough to force her inside a few times and enough to keep me away all together. I don't mind being in the garden...its the working part that I have a problem with! Anyway, we kicked the idea of going to the beach around some and decided we would give it a shot. Here on Kauai you can't tell what the weather will be like on another part of the island just by what it is like where you are. It can and will change a lot in just a few miles. After we got to Anini we could see where it had been raining some and the sky was still overcast but the water was prime...as flat as a lake with good visbility so Jackie and I snorkeled out and found the fish to be very cooperative. We saw 4 eels, ran into a honu in 3 different spots, caught a brief glimpse of a longspine porcupinefish and captured some nice video along with some good pics of a longnosed butterflyfish! This little guy is awesome as you will see tomorrow as we had too much other video we wanted to post today. We also had a real nice swim with a stripebelly puffer. This guy wasn't as large as some of the others we have seen. I would guess him to be about 8 or 9 inches where as some of the others would be in the 14 to 15 inch range. The color on this one was mostly brown and the larger ones were mostly green but our book says the colors can vary. We also saw a lot of idols and got some good clips of them. We were even able to get a video of one with its fin flared out! We will post it tomorrow as well.
