AWESOME EAGLE RAY

Aloha! I'm sure you have all heard the old adage about March coming in like a lion and leaving like a lamb. Well I know in the Yakima Valley that was true more times than not and I'm hoping it will be true here on Kauai as well. At least I can say for sure the 1st part is gospel as the wind has been howling like crazy this past week. It has been blowing so hard it has kept Jackie and I away from the beach and cooped up in our apartment like a couple of old hermits. The only times we have even gone outside have been trips to the store or brief stints out working in the garden. Luckily that changed a bit today. The winds let up enough for Jackie and I to chance a beach trip. Wow am I glad that we did! Jackie and I had one of the most amazing snorkels we have ever had. We encountered two eagle rays! They were out at the opening of chicken skin crack and they stuck around long enough for us to get a good look. It was awesome! I think they were as intrigued with us as we were with them because they just kept swimming slowly past...almost like they wanted to see what kind of creatures were invading their territory. We swam with them for about 30 minutes or to be more precise Jackie and I kind of hovered in one spot and they kept swimming past us. It was amazing! I shot picture after picture and almost 20 minutes of video. If my battery would have held out I could have captured more. I really wish you guys could have been there to share the experience with us. The video is just not the same as real life. We finally had to just swim away because we were both starting to get chilled and it was a long way back to shore but let me tell you it was very hard to leave them cause they were putting on a spectacular show. The video I shot today I put into 3 parts. It is posted on my Facebook page and I will put as much here as I can. It might have to be in a couple of posts.
